NICK THIESSEN

LEAD PASTOR

After moving to Edmonton from Winnipeg to attend Taylor Seminary in 2009, I grew to love Zion as a place for worship, service and fellowship. It was my privilege to serve as a student intern during my time in school (2010-12) and the Associate Pastor following graduation (2012-16). In my current role as Senior Pastor, I am blessed to shepherd a congregation that really seems to understand and live out what it means to love and care for one another. It's a joy to work alongside men and women, both young and not-as-young, who value preaching & worship that is centred on the cross and rooted in the Word, and service & hospitality that is intentional and genuine.

Amy and I were married in 2010, and we have two beautiful daughters, Magnolia and Adaline.

CHRIS WESTON

CONGREGATIONAL CARE ASSOCIATE

I’ve had the joy of being a part of the Zion church family since 1998 and much of my time during these years has been spent caring for my family and others (and being cared for by many!). Along the way, God has displayed his kindness by providing opportunities to minister in a variety of capacities, both within our church and in parachurch ministries, serving alongside others in the areas of spiritual formation, children’s ministry, and women’s ministry. I count myself tremendously blessed to have been given a wonderful husband, Craig, five children and now a son-in-law! In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, reading, playing games, and having a good conversation on a walk or over a cup of strong coffee.

SHARLENE GUENTHER

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

I have been attending Zion since 2007 and started working in the office in April 2014. I moved to Edmonton from Vermilion, AB in 2003 to attend Taylor University College; it took a few years before I discovered Zion and started attending here. In addition to working in the office, I am also involved in music on Sunday mornings and serving in the youth ministry. When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with family & friends, exploring the world of photography, and getting away to the mountains when I have the chance.

AI HAYASHIZAKI

MINISTRY ASSISTANT

Growing up in diverse mixtures of cultures, my ministry has been in intercultural community development and missions. When I first came to Edmonton as an exchange student in 2013, I attended a church that called Zion home and became utterly fond of the community. I returned to Edmonton in 2015 and graduated from Taylor Seminary with an MA in Intercultural Studies degree (2017). I joined Zion staff in 2021, and it has been a zestful experience to learn from and grow with the people who seek to glorify God in their unique contexts.

Outside of the office, I am a knowledge hoarder, playful cook, and health & exercise enthusiast.

STEFAN MOLDOVAN

CUSTODIAN

In 2006, I immigrated to Canada and had the privilege of being part of the Zion community. I enjoy serving together with my wife in the janitorial service of the building for a year now. I am a simple man who loves the Lord Jesus Christ.

Leaders

Our staff team serves alongside dedicated members who form our Ministry Council and who serve as Ministry Coordinators.

The Ministry Council is a group of leaders, which includes our pastors and a chair (Moderator), who are set apart to lead, feed, guard and equip the church spiritually (a role referred to using a variety of terms in Scripture including "elders", "overseers", and "shepherds").

Ministry Coordinators are leaders who are entrusted with a specific (and typically more ā€œpracticalā€) aspect of ministry, referred to as "deacons" in Scripture.
Want to know how the Ministry Council and Ministry Coordinators are chosen? Check out the guidebook for our annual Nominating Committee, which is appointed to make recommendations to the members each year.
